We hope you had a great start to the academic year. So what better way to carry on than by discovering a few new tools to improve your research productivity?
First, we are pleased to announce the availability of Psykinematix Version 1.1, our Mac OSX OpenGL-based software dedicated to visual psychophysics. This second public release contains many bug fixes, improvements, new features, new tutorials, and an updated documentation. This new version is fully compatible with Mac OS X 10.4 ('Tiger'), 10.5 ('Leopard') and the just-released 10.6 ('Snow Leopard'), and still runs on older PowerPC-based and newer Intel-based Macintosh computers. With this release we are also introducing:
- a new entry price: Psykinematix is even more affordable now that there is a C$300 Student Licenseavailable to individual researchers & students.

'Field of View' can be used to check the display geometry of your experimental setup: enter the display size and viewing distance and the app automatically calculates the field of view and the Nyquist frequency, or vice versa! |
'Math Graphing' plots and interacts with 1D functions using Matlab-like expressions: mathematical functions of arbitrary complexity can be plotted, saved or e-mailed. |
'Patterns' generates visual stimuli using Matlab-like expressions: enter a 2D mathematical expression of arbitrary complexity and the app computes the visual stimulus which can then be saved or emailed. |

Visual psychophysics teaching tool (was Psykinematix).
Psykinematix GPU (was Psykinematix) is a new OpenGL-based software package dedicated to visual psychophysics running on Macintosh computers only. Psykinematix GPU consists in a unique stand-alone application that does not require any programming skill to create and run complex experiments. Easy to use, subject-friendly, powerful and reliable, Psykinematix GPU runs standard psychophysical protocols, generates and presents complex stimuli, collects subject's responses, and analyzes results on the fly. Psykinematix GPU is also a great learning tool to introduce visual perception and to illustrate psychophysical concepts to students.
